Text File Monitor
In IT environments various events will be journalized. In most cases this takes place in text files which are located in subdirectories of the particular applications or in special centralized log directories. The manual checking of the contents is both time-consuming and unreliable. In addition to the checking of the contents, the completeness of the checking process can be called into question.
Impulsus isymon®: the software solution for an efficient and inexpensive monitoring of your log files.
Parser technology with regular expressions
Since the Text File Monitor includes parser technology the log files to be checked and its contents can be found based on a formula. The use of regular expressions for pathnames, file names, and file contents make the checking process easy. Thus it is possible to find every day new files which show a new date in the file name or it is possible to search a specific type of file in the entire directory structure.
Text file groups
Log files can be combined in log file groups. For each log file group common checking rules can be defined. The related files will be found due to regular expressions or by static file names. It is up to you whether the subdirectories should be searched as well.
Checking rules
Log files can be searched for text strings. For this approach even functions such as “WHILE,“ “UNTIL,“ and FILTER are available. In addition to the lines that are found an unlimited number of lines preceding or following the relevant line can also be sent. This can be combined with a time limit in order to send the message within a few seconds even when not enough lines are available.
Voluntary self-monitoring
The Log File Monitor automatically checks the system load it produces. For instance, it is possible to define that in each process a file can be processed at the most for n seconds - no matter if it came to an end or not. Additionally, “Speed Values” can be computed in order to evaluate the processing speed. If the file size increases faster than it can be processed, the Log File Monitor will notice it and send a message automatically.
